Good Morning dear students

By the end of the lesson, you will be able to
- mark the periods of a number.
- write the number names of large numbers.
- read the number name and write its numeral
Can you think of some
examples where we use large numbers in our day-to-day life?
- Number of people in India is a large number.
- Distance between two planets in our solar system in kilometers is a very large number
Now let us learn more about large
numbers.
First of all recall The Indian Place Value Chart about which you
studied in class IV.
Go through the following video:
Video on Indian place value chart
So according to
the INDIAN SYSTEM, the places under each period are as follows:
ONES→ones, tens, hundreds
THOUSANDS- Thousands and
ten thousands
LAKHS- Lakhs and Ten
lakhs
CRORES- Crores and
Ten crores
Features of Indian System of Numeration:
- The places in Indian System are grouped under the periods- crores, lakhs, thousands and ones.
- The ones period has three places- ones, tens and hundreds and the rest have two each.
- The periods are separated by a comma while writing a number.
- The digits of a number are grouped in periods starting from right to left. But we read the number from left to right.
- Do not put a comma while writing the number in words.
- We do not use 'and' while writing the number name.
Let us understand reading and
writing of numbers with the help of an example.
For eg. Write the number name of 52012318
Soln. As explained above, first we group them into periods starting from right
C L Th O

Now we write its number name- Five crore twenty lakh twelve thousand three hundred eighteen
Now let us start exercise 1.1
*Take your maths notebook. On the first page, make the index.
*On the next page, write the date and the name of the topic.
We start with Q1 in which we will focus only on the Indian System.

So that's all for today! Revise this concept and complete your homework.
Take care and stay safe☺
